Jaws 2 (1978)

Jaws 2 (1978)

Directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Starring: Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton

Wow, so it IMMEDIATELY goes from genre-defining classic to garbage you’d expect to see on the SyFy channel. I kinda expected there’d be a downward sloping curve or something between Jaws 1 and 4.

Roy Scheider reprises his role as the small-town sheriff who has to deal with teeners getting et by a big ol’ shark. This time, there’s a group of teens who went out to the middle of the bay for a boat party or something, and they get slowly picked off by the shark until Scheider finally gets there and BLOWS THE SHIT OUT OF IT WITH A POWER CORD.

The only reason I gave this movie the second star is because of the ending, where he tricks the shark into biting into a power line and it just catches on fire and continually explodes for about five minutes. It’s hilarious and also kinda awesome. For the rest of the time, though, the shark they got for the movie looked like shit, like a goddamn plaster bath toy they just threw at people. That combined with the generic teens getting eaten by a monster plot, and there just isn’t much worthwhile about this movie. Except the explosion, I can’t stress enough how fucking funny that was.
