Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001)

Directed by: Mary Lambert

Starring: Kimberly J. Brown, Debbie Reynolds, Daniel Kountz

Ah, I love sequels to movies that they realize nobody’s ever seen, so they make sure to include a recap of what happened in the first film at the beginning of the sequel. It’s just like admitting that you’re making movies for nobody.

I guess the premise is that there’s a town of Halloween monsters in another dimension, and this girl and her sister and mom and grandma are all witches who split their time living there and in the normal world. Anyway, the son of the bad guy from the first movie casts a spell on Halloweentown that turns everyone into grey, normal humans, instead of the costumes and things they wore in the flashback to the first one. Only the witch girl and her grandma can save Halloweentown, and keep the bad guy from turning all the normal people in the normal world into Halloween-style monsters!

I just love that the guy’s evil spell is a cost-saving measure. That’s hilarious. Also, the main girl in this movie, Kimberly J. Brown, is just inexcusably bad. I mean, once you’re 17, you can’t use the “oh, well, child actors are always terrible” excuse anymore, and you should really either learn how to deliver a damn line or find a new job.

Also, everything else about this movie is predictable and stupid.
