Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)

Directed by: Hiroshi Aoyama, Kazumi Fukushima, Jim Stenstrum

Starring: Scott Innes, Billy West, Frank Welker

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island was the first in the latest wave of direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies (and yes, I knew that without looking it up, shut up), and the one to introduce the whole concept that they actually start going up against REAL supernatural foes instead of guys in rubber masks. Assuming, of course, that we don’t count The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, where–OH GOD, SOMEBODY KILL ME MY LIFE IS A LIE!

Scooby and the gang visit an island named Zombie Island, where there are zombies. More than just zombies, however, there are also a small group of immortal cat-people who feast on people’s souls every harvest moon to keep themselves alive, and that’s where the zombies come from. Whaaaaa…

I gotta give this movie one thing, you never expect the totally insane last-minute reveal that it was immortal psychic bayou cat-monsters behind everything all along. That’s… uh… that’s something, all right. Weird, is probably the best word for it.
