The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns (1999)

The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns (1999)

Directed by: John Henderson

Starring: Randy Quaid, Colm Meaney, Whoopi Goldberg

Wow, I gotta say that I’m really surprised. I thought for sure that this three hour long epic fantasy movie about leprechauns fighting pixies was supposed to be cashing in on the success of the Lord of the Rings movies, but Fellowship of the Ring didn’t come out for another two years after this one. So… this was ahead of the curve? I have to go re-evaluate my life.

Randy Quaid moves to Ireland because of some stupid real estate subplot that doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is the ripoff of Romeo & Juliet that serves as the main story, as a leprechaun boy and a pixie girl fall in love, causing their two races to go to war. They even stop the war by pretending to poison themselves. Also, Chief O’Brien from Star Trek is the dad leprechaun, and Whoopie Goldberg is God or something.

Can you imagine watching little fairies attacking each other for three hours? CAN YOU?! OF COURSE YOU CAN’T!! This glacially-paced pile of shit is completely terrible in every respect. Even after three hours the novelty of Chief O’Brien as a drunken wee folk wears off. And Randy Quaid plays the straight man/hero of the story. Who the fuck came up with that casting choice?

This is by far the worst film I have EVER seen!!!! Awful effects, terrible acting and implausable plot lines stolen (not homaged) from half a dozen better films. It’s sHOCKING!
