Hellboy (2004)

Hellboy (2004)

Directed by: Guillermo del Toro

Starring: Ron Perlman, Doug Jones, Selma Blair

It had been a while since I saw this film, and I still like it. Though… I think I used to like it more. Not that it really matters, still good shit.

During WWII, the Nazis asked Rasputin to open up a portal to the dimension where Cthulu lives. This is the kind of movie this is. Instead, all that pops out is an adorable little devil thing, who eventually grows into the be-mutton-chopped Ron Perlman as Hellboy. He’s a jerk, got a huge ego, and has one really big hand and a friend who’s a fish. They fight Nazis and evil tentacle dogs and some dude made of sand or something.

This is a beautiful film. The special effects are almost generally great (the tentacle dog things that didn’t look that good to begin with didn’t age well), and obviously Ron Perlman is just the perfect guy to cast as Hellboy. I’d definitely recommend it, just as long as you’re looking for something fun rather than substantial.
