Secret Agent (1936)

Secret Agent (1936)

Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock

Starring: John Gielgud, Peter Lorre, Madeliene Carroll

“Secret Agent”? That’s the name of your movie about secret agents? I guess it doesn’t leave any mystery about what the damn thing’s about, does it? Secret Agent, then.

These three secret agents (because that’s what the movie’s about) are out to get some German secrets from some German secret agent or something and there’s lots of secret agentery all over the place.

What takes this movie from the same ol’ boring thing I appear to have been watching for WEEKS now was Peter Lorre. Of course. He’s actually really funny in this movie as the vaguely foreign little weird guy. I have no idea how he got cast like that, but damn it’s good. If only he had gotten more work like that. Too bad. A real, massive shame that is. So… so bad. About it. That thing.
