Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)

Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)

Directed by: Rob Spera

Starring: Warwick Davis, Ice-T, Anthony Montgomery

So after I watched the first four Leprechaun movies (in reverse order, for some stupid reason), I felt a little gypped. I mean, what about the fifth and sixth entries to the series?! I needed more of “the hood”. And really, after visiting Vegas and space, “the hood” was the next logical place to bring the Leprechaun franchise. Nothing says little Irish pixie like Ice-T in an afro.

So Ice-T steals a golden flute from the Leprechaun and uses it’s powers to become a rich rap star. Because of all the fluting in rap. Anyway, a trio of aspiring rappers led by a guy who actually goes by the name of “Postmaster P” manage to steal the flute from him, bringing them success and the ire of the homicidal Leprechaun. Again, because of the massive use of flutes in rap.

I guess if you just have no idea how to go about integrating a leprechaun into your “urban” setting, you might as well just make him not fit in whatsoever. A magic flute? Sure! Leprechaun smoking weed? Of course! A Leprechaun rap over the ending credits? Why, it wouldn’t be a fully-fledged bad idea without it! Personally, I’m amazed that the guy who wrote this movie has no other IMDb writing credits.
