Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)

Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)

Directed by: Jun Fukuda

Starring: Hiroshi Ishikawa, Yuriko Hishimi, Minoru Takashima

You can tell that Toho really hit their stride with Godzilla movies at this point, since this and the next three movies in the series all basically have the exact same premise. Some aliens come down, hate us, then there’s a bunch of monsters a-fightin’.

A couple aliens (who are actually giant cockroaches in disguise as humans) want Earth to be covered in “total peace”, which of course means killing everybody. To this end, they summon Gigan and King Ghidorah from space to destroy the world, but luckily Godzilla and his buddy Anguirus swim out from Monster Island to stop them.

Anguirus? Really? Even RODAN is more of a respectable space monster fighter than fucking Anguirus. Then again, Gigan is pretty dumb himself. He looks like a reptilian chicken with hook arms and Cyclops’ visor. They deserve each other.
