Big Trouble (1986)

Big Trouble (1986)

Directed by: John Cassavetes

Starring: Peter Falk, Alan Arkin, Beverly D’Angelo

Not to be confused with the Big Trouble with Tim Allen or with Big Trouble in Little China (a vastly superior movie to both of them, of course), THIS Big Trouble has Peter Falk and Alan Arkin in a Dirty Rotten Scoundrels sort of situation. What’s not to love?

Arkin is an insurance agent who gets pulled into D’Angelo’s scheme to kill her husband (Falk) and make five million bucks off of the insurance. It seems like they succeed, but the insurance company doesn’t believe the coincidence of the guy dying two days after he gets a massive life insurance policy, and also he isn’t actually dead. Turns out Falk is part of the scam, and the three of them go on an adventure to try and get this money, or really ANY money.

This is a decent movie. It’s not great or anything, but Peter Falk is really funny in it, and Alan Arkin does a really good job as the straight man who eventually goes crazy. But still, there’s a lot of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in there, and all that did was remind me of a much better film.
