Garfield’s Pet Force (2009)

Garfield’s Pet Force (2009)

Directed by: Mark A.Z. Dippé

Starring: Frank Welker, Wally Wingert, Gregg Berger

I like Frank Welker. He’s the heir apparent to Mel Blanc as far as awesome voice actors go, and he can mimic just about any animal in the world. However, having him voice Garfield… not only does it seem kinda cheap, but… well, he’s not Lorenzo Music. Sorry, Frank.

In an alternate universe, the Garfield cast are superheroes/villains, and the only way to save their flimsily-put-together world is to go into the normal Garfield universe (and by normal I mean the most recent one set by that one shitty movie a couple years ago where they live in some weird newspaper comics world) and turn the normal Garfield people into superheroes.

Yeah yeah, this movie is really retarded, but I don’t want to talk about. What I want to discuss is the weird cosmology being built in these new Garfield movies. So, Garfield and friends live in a world responsible for making newspaper comics (well, except for the U.S. Acres guys, since they’re only a webcomic now), and inside this world they read comic books. Comic books which have their own, similar world within it. So… does this mean that comic books in our world are the same as in the newspaper comics world? Is that a different universe? Why is it so easy to pass between all these different dimensions? Why are there so many different versions of Garfield? WHY DO I CARE ABOUT THIS?!
