Billion Dollar Brain (1967)

Billion Dollar Brain (1967)

Directed by: Ken Russell

Starring: Michael Caine, Karl Malden, Ed Begley

Well, SOMEbody sure saw themselves a Bond movie, didn’t they? And… I guess they saw Alfie or something, too, and figured that Michael Caine would be a good Bond-like secret agent. Okay, they got that part right, but otherwise…

There’s a crazy bastard (Ed Begley) who has a billion dollar computer that’s telling him how to defeat the damn COMMIES for once and for all. Unfortunately, the computer’s wrong, and all Begley’s going to do by invading Lithuania or whatever country he’s going after would be to start WWIII and/or one of those nuclear winter situations. Luckily, Michael Caine and his accent are on the case!

This is kind of a dumb movie, but both Caine and Begley turn in really great performances that make the third act actually pretty good. Unfortunately, the slow lead-up to the end of the film kinda drags, and makes the first hour of the film too boring to care much about. But still, Ed Begley as a crazy anti-commie guy is pretty great.
