Young and Innocent (1937)

Young and Innocent (1937)

Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock

Starring: Nova Pilbeam, Derrick De Marney, Percy Marmont

Here’s another early Hitchcock film that may seem on the outside to be a thriller of some sort, only to end up being basically a romantic comedy. I know it sucks to be only thought of for doing one particular thing, it’s just annoying that I keep looking for a Hitchcockian film in these old Hitchcock films and I’m just finding things that could easily be remade modernly with like, the chick from Juno and Shia LaBeouf. Okay, maybe not him, but I can’t think of any younger leading man nowadays that seems capable of acting cool and composed. Okay, before we turn this into a “get off my lawn” rant…

The police find a man murdered, and the man who found him seems to be the most likely suspect. Of course, he escapes jail and runs off with the help of the daughter of the police commissioner, who obviously ends up falling in love with him over a series of wacky hijinks.

I may seem a little down on this movie, but it actually did have a couple funny bits to it, and if nothing else, you get to see a full brass band dressed in blackface for absolutely no reason! How often do you get to see that in movies nowadays?
