Ghost Fever (1987)

Ghost Fever (1987)

Directed by: Lee Madden

Starring: Sherman Hemsley, Luis Avalos, Jennifer Rhodes

Ooh, okay, trivia time, everybody! The director of this film is actually credited to one Alan Smithee. If you don’t know, “Alan Smithee” is a pseudonym that used to be used by directors (and sometimes other personnel, such as screenwriters) when they didn’t want to be associated with the final product of the movie. So, basically, Lee Madden up there decided that he was far too ashamed of the final cut of Ghost Fever to put his name on it. I don’t really blame him.

Oh, and here’s something else real quick that I found funny: Alan Smithee has an IMDb page. Anyway.

Sherman Hemsley (George Jefferson, from the Jeffersons? Yeah, him) and his partner are cops that have to kick some nice ladies out of a haunted house. Of course, the house is haunted by a racist ghost who doesn’t like all these MINORITIES in his house, so wacky hijinks ensue. With the help of the two immortal ladies in the house and the ghost of Hemsley’s grandfather (who is also played by Hemsley), they defeat the evil spirit, who actually turns out to be a vampire. Oh, and then there’s a boxing match where they win enough money to pay the mortgage on the house to keep it from being torn down.

Yeah, the movie’s chock-full of stupid ghost hijinks, but what really got me was the twist that the evil ghost was actually a vampire. Haha, what? How does that work? Are vampires like… super ghosts or something? Oh man, it was priceless. I have no idea why Lee Madden didn’t want his name associated with this movie (I also find it hilarious that, thanks to IMDb, he’s completely failed in this respect).
