Webmaster (1998)

Directed by: Thomas Borch Nielsen

Starring: Lars Bom, Puk Scharbau, Jørgen Kiil

Sometimes futuristic fantasy movies can withstand the test of time. It’s not very often, but it can happen. For instance, Blade Runner. That’s a futuristic movie that’s actually quite old now, but it isn’t really laughable at it’s use or portrayal of technology. More often, you get something like this Danish ripoff of Blade Runner which was probably just as retarded-seeming now as when it was made.

Webmaster is about this annoying bald guy who speaks in monotone (who is a webmaster, naturally) who has to find out who’s been stealing his boss’ money. This somehow turns into this bizarre conspiracy from this one woman who sleeps with everybody to take over the “cyberworld” or something. It’s really stupid.

I may not have hated this movie so much if not for the terrible dub and the really bland voice the main character had. I don’t know if it was that way originally or what, but it really dragged down the rest of this already bad movie. It wasn’t just that the guy spoke in a monotone, but half the movie was him doing a voiceover with strange, unrelated phrases like, “Cables. Yeah right.” I kept expecting him to say, “Flag on the moon. How did it get there?”
