Although you may think that a movie named Kong Island with a big picture of a gorilla on the DVD would be even marginally related to King Kong, you’d be sadly mistaken. In fact, it looks like the original Italian title translates into something like Eva, the Wild Beauty, which refers to a minor character who isn’t an ape at all.

A group of people go out on safari in the jungle somewhere (Kong Island, I guess), and when a woman is abducted by intelligent apes (I didn’t say there WEREN’T apes in here, they just have nothing to do with King Kong) another safari goes out to look for her. The party eventually gets taken down to just one guy and the wild jungle girl he finds, who finally finds the rocky lair of the intelligent apes and the mad scientist who’s been putting control devices in their heads so he can… steal ladies, I guess.

Fully 80% of this damn movie is slow walks through the jungle interspersed with cutaways of stock footage of random animals. Not only that, but whoever was the cinematographer on this thing had obviously never even HEARD of a camera before, much less handled one. There were constantly shots out of focus, characters being half off-screen, and so on. I was watching this with my friend who went through film school and he was about to have an anurism from the thing, haha. Almost killing your friends; that’s what real cinema’s about.
