Directed by: Wei Lo

Starring: Bruce Lee, Nora Miao, James Tien

three-stars

This movie is crazy. I mean, yeah, it’s Bruce Lee and all, but every time I see him go crazy in a fight scene, I’m in awe again. It’s a serious shame that he died so young, he could’ve been kicking ass for years and I’d still never get tired of it.

Fist of Fury takes place in Shanghai during the Japanese occupation, and centers around a martial arts school who’s leader has just died. Chen (Lee), one of the master’s star pupils vows to find who killed him, not believing it to be natural causes, as they claim. This brings him to a rival Japanese school who were behind the whole thing… and he just goes nuts on those guys.

There’s some great fight scenes in this movie, that goes without saying, but the story and acting is actually pretty interesting too, not something you see very often in martial arts movies. Also, it’s a change to see Bruce Lee flip out like he does in this movie, he usually plays the calm and collected type of guy, not the vengeful student bent on revenge. If anything, this movie shows you that you certainly don’t want to piss off Bruce Lee.
