No, I didn’t watch this just because of the name, and I certainly didn’t watch it just so I could have a post on this thing called, simply, “Fuck.” However, I did watch it because I thought it would actually be an interesting documentary about the origins and uses of the word. Which it more or less is, I guess.

Fuck is a documentary consisting mostly of interviews with stand-up comedians, radio dj’s, musicians, porn stars, and Hunter S. Thompson. It flits around from subject to subject, never really settling on any defining sort of stance on anything, except that the filmmakers definitely side with the more liberal view of swearing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I was happy to see Billy Connolly in this movie, since I more or less consider him to be the best living scholar on the word fuck. I mean, I’m pretty sure he says it more times per capita than any other person put to film. Besides him, Hunter S. Thompson has some interesting blurbs which more or less have nothing at all to do with what they were talking about, and you just know the cut footage for that interview must’ve been damn interesting.

I saw this movie a couple weeks ago, and honestly the only parts I specifically remember were on Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, and that just covered stuff I already knew about those two fine gentlemen. So I guess I didn’t learn anything from this documentary, but it wasn’t a bad use of time if you’re interested in the subject, I guess.
