Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (1988)

Directed by: Charles A. Nichols

Starring: Casey Kasem, Don Messick, Glynis Johns

Ugh, 80’s Scooby-Doo. I’m something of a Scooby-Doo expert (something I brag about on all my resumes, of course), and in my professional opinion, there’s nothing worse than the 80’s for Scooby-Doo, and there’s one very simple reason: In 1979 a character was created called Scrappy-Doo, a pint-sized nephew of the titular dog who was the single most obnoxious character in the history of the world, beating out both Jabberjaw and Chris Kattan. Scrappy lasted until… well, now that I look at it, looks like this movie is the last appearance of Scrappy-Doo! Huh, I always thought they threw him into a wood chipper or something. Too bad.

Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School is a parade of bad puns… for an hour and a half. It also has something to do with Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy traveling to a school for monster girls to become their volleyball coach so they can beat the military academy across the lake or something. And once that’s over, they get captured by an evil spider (?) woman named Revolta as a sort of plot afterthought. Mostly it’s about the bad puns, though.

This movie is a parade of punny pain. …Have I used that before? Anyway, it’s pretty damn terrible, and every other line is a pun, with the remaining lines being setups for puns. THIS IS TERRIBLE AND IT SHOULD NOT EXIST, let alone be shown on TV ever.
