Directed by: Joseph McGrath

Starring: John Cleese, Arthur Lowe, Connie Booth

three-stars

Strange indeed. This hour-long movie revolves around John Cleese as Arthur Sherlock Holmes, the grandson of the famous detective, and his chase of the grandson of Moriarty, with the help of the grandson of Dr. Watson. Strange Case pokes fun at detective movies and famous detectives of all sorts, but it’s mostly just an hour long pun-fest with some slapstick thrown in. Arthur Lowe as the incredibly dim Dr. Watson manages to steal the show from Cleese, and makes the movie pretty funny at points.

It was certainly an oddity, and I was just as surprised watching it as I was when I found out about it’s existence. It’s long after Flying Circus, but it’s almost nothing like it. It’s just… It’s just weird. Don’t hurt yourself searching for this one, Cleese fans.
