Oh boy, “quirky” is my favorite genre of comedy movie. Right after “funny” and “everything else”. There’s a good cast making up the main characters of this film, it just gets too caught up in how clever it is to ever really be all that funny.
Ewan McGregor, a reporter, meets up with George Clooney in Iraq, who is a psychic warrior trained by Jeff Bridges and who is trying to use his “jedi” powers to go on one last mission. He tells the story about how his elite army squad was trained in the psychic arts in order to promote peace, but a jerk (Kevin Spacey) fucked everything up for them. Also they get kidnapped by Iraqis while telling the story, oops.
It’s kinda funny. Mostly the flashback stuff is what’s good, but all of it suffers from the same general smugness overshadowing the actual humor. Maybe I’m just being too picky, I dunno.
