So every year for Halloween, I watch a horror movie series. That’s… that’s pretty much it. Nothing deep about it, I just watch a bunch movies. Which is… basically what I do anyway. Look, shut up, I watched all the Saw movies and now I have to review them.
Two men wake up to find themselves chained up in a bathroom with hacksaws so they can escape. The problem is, the saws won’t cut through the chains, but they WILL cut through their legs. While they try to figure out what’s going on, Danny Glover and his cop partner are hot on the trail of Jigsaw, a new innovative serial killer who puts people in situations where they have to do horrifying things or they get killed.
This is a pretty decent horror movie. The premise is interesting and the visual aesthetic is cool. Also, the “traps” aren’t really the main part of the movie. They’re there to spice it up and make it cool, but the story is basically these two guys figuring out what’s going on, and the tension builds really well with a nice twist ending you don’t see coming. On the other hand, Cary Elwes is really remarkably terrible and he is unfortunately supposed to be the good dramatic actor in the thing. So yeah, overall not too bad for being what it is. It gets WAY worse.
