I wonder if there are any Leslie Nielsen parody movies I HAVEN’T reviewed yet. Really, Spy Hard is scraping pretty far down the barrel of that particular bunch of movies. It feels like it’s another Naked Gun film, but they don’t quite hit any of the points that make those stand out above the rest of the genre. It’s not great.
An evil villain (Andy Griffith) is planning to blow up the world unless he gets his revenge on the spy that foiled his plans twenty years ago. They bring Leslie Nielsen back into action to stop the madman, and he goes through several webs of intrigue and trysts with femme fatale double agents to do so.
It’s basically a parody of the James Bond series, and it’s funny enough, I guess. I laughed a couple times. I think probably the weakest part of the film is how the plot is just a way to get from one gag set to another, which is all-too common in these types of movies. Andy Griffith as the villain is really weird casting, and he’s honestly not that funny in the role, but just the idea that they cast him as the villain was pretty funny.
