I’ve watched the entire Bond series now, and I’m pretty certain when I say that Die Another Day is the worst entry in the series. Not just because they favor CGI over traditional special effects, but because it’s a weird mess of a story.
After foiling a North Korean general, Bond gets captured and tortured by those same people for an indeterminate amount of time. Eventually he gets out thanks to a prisoner transfer, and immediately goes back to doing his James Bond stuff. He and Halle Berry wreck up some goofy future plastic surgeon’s lab, then hang out in an ice castle in the north pole for a party hosted by a daredevil “adventurer” who’s built a satellite that turns solar power into a laser beam that can melt/catch fire to everything. For some reason the bad guy has to wear a robotic suit to control this satellite, and Bond eventually beats him on a plane which is directly underneath the path of this sun laser and it really should’ve blown up like everything else but it doesn’t just because they forgot or something arnrdfsggghbttghgffsdhsafh
I knew that was going to happen, even though I was specifically trying to avoid mentioning the dumb plot holes. Just look at it this way: After 40 years of doing nearly the same thing over and over again, Die Another Day was so bad that they decided to reboot the series into a completely different style.
