Fires Were Started (1943)

Fires Were Started (1943)

Directed by: Humphrey Jennings

Starring: Philip Dickson, George Gravett, Fred Griffiths

It’s been a while since I did a five movie challenge, so here we go! Today’s theme is “old documentaries”, even though I wouldn’t call a couple of them documentaries and one of them was actually pretty recent. THEME, SCHMEME!

We follow a bunch of firemen (played by themselves) as they fuck around and occasionally fight fires. That’s pretty much it.

I don’t know, maybe there’s some historical value to this or something, but I just didn’t “get” this movie. It’s not really a documentary because they have dramatic elements with these non-actors trying to do things, but at the same time there are no characters or story or anything besides firefighters being firefightery. So I guess I missed the point, which actually happened with a couple of the movies from this challenge.
