Yes, I went straight from watching Transformers to a Victorian coming-of-age story about a young woman unhappy with her place in the world. You WISH you were me right now, I can tell.
Jane Eyre is a smart, artistic young woman in Victorian England who speaks out against being treated like how they treated women in Victorian England. She falls in love with an asshole, but refuses to marry him until he treats her like an equal. Once she passes that hurdle, it turns out he was already married to some crazy woman he keeps in the basement, and that’s really one of the last things anyone wants to find out about on their wedding day.
This movie was fine. Both the leads were very good and none of the dialogue felt stilted and pointlessly overdramatic like these types of films tend to do. It just… wasn’t really my kind of movie. I know, you’re shocked. I’d recommend it as a date movie, though. It’s honestly not bad to sit through, and it’ll remind your girl that you don’t even have a secret crazy wife in your basement!
