Cry of the Innocent (1980)

Cry of the Innocent (1980)

Directed by: Michael O’Herlihy

Starring: Rod Taylor, Joanna Pettet, Nigel Davenport

This is a pretty unremarkable action/mystery movie, even to the point where I watched it yesterday and when looking at the title today I had to think really hard to remember anything about it.

A guy comes back from the military to his Irish family and everything is happy and wonderful. Of course, this means that his wife and kids have to die in a horrible plane crash the very next day, and right in front of the guy, even. Along with a reporter who looks exactly like his dead wife (because they were cheap and hired the same woman for two roles for NO STORY REASON), he finds out that the plane was blown up by an evil developer because there was also some architect or scientist or something on the plane, and this guy’s family just happened to be in the wrong place.

Sure is a TV movie about a guy getting revenge for his dead family. This is exactly the kind of movie that people are talking about when they make fun of bad action movie cliches. Making the female lead the same actress as the dead wife is just an extra delicious layer of insulting the audience on top of the whole shit movie cake.
