I’m really bad at reviewing serious drama movies that aren’t terrible, so I just hate watching them in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, American History X isn’t a bad film by really any measure, but it just didn’t interest me.
Ed Norton is a neo-Nazi white supremacist who goes to jail for shooting two black men who try to steal his truck. In prison, he makes friends with a black man and realizes that the other skinheads in the joint aren’t really his friends after they rape him. When he gets out, he tries to distance his little brother from the movement because he finally sees that it’s bad to be a Nazi.
There’s some good acting and the characters are well-built and believable, but I dunno. The moral that racism is bad is nice and all, but it’s obvious and well-trodden ground. I guess I just didn’t get a whole lot out of this movie.
