I just realized the other day that none of the Spider-Man trilogy of movies were reviewed on here, which was a nice excuse to watch them all again. Well, a nice excuse to watch the first two again, anyway. They’re pretty good movies. Mostly from a comic book nerd point of view, I admit, which is really the only one I have to give.
Ordinary high school student Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains super strength, the ability to climb up walls, and starts shooting some sort of disgusting web-like substance from his wrists. Of course he becomes a superhero, named Spider-Man, and he fights an insane businessman who calls himself the Green Goblin and who rides around on a weird little jet scooter thing. It’s an epic battle of nerd vs rich psychopath for all the ages.
I really liked this movie. It was fun, I thought Maguire did a good job both as the nerdy and hopeless Peter Parker and the more confident-to-the-point-of-being-a-dick Spider-Man. Also, Willem Dafoe turns in a fantastic performance as the insane Green Goblin, and Kirsten Dunst is… uh… you see her nipples, I guess, for those of you who really like nipples in your superhero stories (I’m looking at you, Greg Land). Overall, it’s just a fun adventure story that isn’t very complicated with some good acting and decent special effects, though I’m not sure how much longer they’ll really hold up.
