Gladiator (2000)

Gladiator (2000)

Directed by: Ridley Scott

Starring: Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen

I don’t really have anything introductory to say about this movie. Pretty much everybody in the world has seen this movie, or at least everybody that’s ever going to.

Russell Crowe is a Roman general who’s double-crossed by the new Emperor and left for dead. He’s sold into slavery as a gladiator, which is a job he’s very good at. He gets his big break and heads for the big city, Rome, where he plots to overthrow the evil Emperor. Meanwhile, more gladiator fights.

The movie is a lot of gladiation (gladiating? gladgeoneering?), and it’s pretty cool action. It’s a lot more realistic and interesting than 300, and the general’s plan is actually pretty realistic and interesting, fun to follow. Yeah, it’s a good action movie. Yep.
