I expected this movie to be like a horror movie about a lady with teeth in her hoo-hah, but it actually turned out to be a really quirky coming-of-age dark comedy thing. I liked it. In fact, I think this is the only time I have ever rated a movie higher than the average IMDb rating for it. Weird.
Dawn is a teenage girl who’s very into abstinence in a conservative town where they cover up diagrams of the female reproductive system with stickers in textbooks. She falls in love with a boy and awkward teen stuff ensues… until he tries to rape her and suddenly finds that his dick has been bitten off. Yes, Dawn suffers from “vagina dentata”, and it freaks her out just as much as the guy.
I really liked how they turned what is traditionally something seen as this terrible thing used to lure unwary men to their doom is turned around to be a metaphor for female body issues and puberty. They even do a good job of it! And, in the end, she learns to accept her body and becomes more confident… and also just a penis-removing MACHINE. This is a good movie and it’s pretty funny, but just make sure you don’t have any hangups about seeing a bunch of bloody, disembodied wangs before you decide to watch it.
