So every once in a while I let a friend of mine choose five movies with a similar theme, and then I watch them all in a day and it takes up a whole day’s worth of reviews. Today, it’s all “uncomfortable” movies, so get ready for me to be complaining about watching some gross shit. Hooray!
A guy goes into the Amazon rainforest to find out what happened to a documentary filmmaking crew that went out there to get footage of the native cannibal tribes out there. He returns with the footage, which shows that these people (who are thankfully dead) were not only rapists and murderers, but seriously just the worst and least professional documentary filmmakers ever.
This movie got a lot of hype at the time because the filmmakers did an excellent job of spreading rumors about how some of the footage was of real murders and things like that. Also, there’s actual footage of them killing animals and cutting them up. The axiom “there’s no such thing as bad press” is proven a hundred times over with this movie, because without these little tricks, absolutely nobody would’ve heard about this movie today. It’ll probably remain one of those movies that middle school boys dare each other to watch, though all the actual information about it available on the internet might’ve ruined the mystique a little.
