Hey, all right, I’ve batted the cycle today, as it were. Five movies, spanning all five of my ratings. I actually don’t think I’ve ever done that before, even though I’ve wanted to. Oh, the movie? Yeah, it was all right. Not as cool as ME, of course.
For some reason, people have set up a large, underground city called Ember. After 200 years, the place is falling apart and supplies are running low, as this is when they originally intended for people to come back out to the surface. Bill Murray’s running the place, however, and he’s happy with his monarchy that he’s set up. Only two teens who find an old box with instructions on the way out dare to break out.
This is actually a pretty decent teen sci-fi story, and Bill Murray is subdued, but still good as the main antagonist. The art direction is interesting, but not anything really to write home about, and the younger actors are passable. In theme, it feels a lot like Zathura, though I wouldn’t say that it’s quite that good. So yeah, not a bad movie, overall.
