Directed by: Alex Cox
Starring: Jaclyn Jonet, Miguel Sandoval, Del Zamora
So apparently this Alex Cox guy directed, as his first feature, a film called Repo Man, starring Emilio Estevez. I wonder what his first job was…
Repo Chick is about a Paris Hilton-esque inheritress who’s told she has to get a job or lose her fortune. She decides to become a repo woman, which in this Orwellian/Republican future is the only field in America which actually sees growth. Then, halfway through the film, we switch plots completely and are instead seeing a group of terrorists holding a trainload of celebrities hostage (including our main character) unless the president becomes a vegan.
The plot is dumb and scattershot and the characters are awful (deliberately so, but it didn’t make me want to watch them any more than if they were naturally that way), but there are a couple neat things about the movie. For some reason, all the backgrounds are done in H.O. scale, and then people are greenscreened into it. It’s weird… but it also opens up some legitimately neat artistic things they did with it. And until they got really heavy-handedly political towards the end, the sci-fi world they made up was kinda neat. Also, Chakotay was in it. That was awful.
