Probe (1972)

Probe (1972)

Directed by: Russ Mayberry

Starring: Hugh O’Brian, Elke Sommer, Burgess Meredith

This is obviously the pilot to a failed TV show in the line of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and the pseudo-James Bond sorta stuff that was really popular at the time. Great name, too.

Our main character is a spy for the secret agency PROBE, and only he can find some ancient missing/stolen diamonds. Luckily he has a bevy of futuristic devices like an ability to communicate video over long distances to a control room. That’s right, everything this guy does is based on what the people studying him in the control room say, and they’re lead by Burgess Meredith.

Can you imagine a job where you had Burgess Meredith constantly screaming instructions in your ear and telling you to stop making out with all the hot dames you come across during your normal work day? I sure can, and it is the stuff nightmares are made of.
