Communion (1989)

Communion (1989)

Directed by: Philippe Mora

Starring: Christopher Walken, Lindsay Crouse, Frances Sternhagen

This was actually a pretty good movie. Of course I’ve heard of it before, as it’s supposed to be one of the best alien abduction films (and it definitely popularized the image of aliens as “grays”), I’d just never really felt compelled to watch it.

Christopher Walken is a writer who is abducted by aliens. The whole movie is him trying to deal with this fact, as well as his family coping with him (and their own abductions).

It’s a really subtle film that pulls most of the plot points from hypnosis sessions, and because of that dynamic, they pace the thing out really well. It’s a legitimately creepy movie, not just because of the alien puppets they have, but also because it’s a movie about Christopher Walken going crazy, and that’s exactly as scary as you’d expect.
