Bloodsport (1988)

Bloodsport (1988)

Directed by: Newt Arnold

Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Donald Gibb, Leah Ayres

Ah, Bloodsport, Jean-Claude Van Damme’s first big movie role. It’s really interesting to see that, over the last 20 years and 40 films… he’s still just as bad an actor as he was to begin with. Except now he’s older so he can’t do as much action stuff. Welp.

Bloodsport is about a guy who goes to this secret, ultimate martial arts tournament and he makes friends and foes, then he kicks a lot of people. The end.

It’s a really generic action movie storyline, but I think it’s mostly because of the popularity of Bloodsport. Also, for those of you playing at home, Bloodsport is probably where Street Fighter got a lot of it’s inspiration, so we owe a lot of the modern fighting game to this film as well. And hell, it’s a lot like watching a fighting game. Watching someone else play a fighting game. And you aren’t allowed to. Aww.
