GoldenEye (1995)

GoldenEye (1995)

Directed by: Martin Campbell

Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco

This is probably the best of the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies, which is too bad, because it’s still not very good. I mean, when the video game based on the movie is better than the movie itself, you know something is wrong. In fact, if the video game is better than the movie, you know you’re watching GoldenEye because it’s the ONLY case of such a thing in history.

James Bond is back again, and he’s up to his usual vehicle-destroying, women-wooing, baccarat-playing ways! He’s up against his former partner who wants to use a space satellite to send out EMPs to wreak havoc across the world, as well as Famke Janssen (you know, Jean Grey) as an assassin who kills people by crushing them to death with her legs during sex. Oh, James Bond.

I actually really like Brosnan as Bond, it just sucks that all the Bond films he’s in are pretty bad. I mean, between all the ‘hacking’ scenes and Boromir as a vaguely threatening villain… there just isn’t much to like here that wasn’t already done significantly better in previous Bond films. Of course, that ends up being the case once you have a franchise that’s made more than twenty films and the early ones were really good. Then again, there’s really only ONE franchise that fits that particular bill, and it’s… never mind, I’m done.
